Volcanic Hazards

Volcanoes may threaten the United States with earthquakes, landslides, floods, tsunamies, volcanic gas, ash falls, and wildfires, etc. To manage the large number of volcanoes within the country, the responsibility has been divided between five regional observatiories. This page provides an introduction to the volcanoes monitored by the Cascades Volcano Observatory. Volcanic threat is scored using a detailed rubric of hazard and exposure factors based on volcano type, modern observations, and historical activity.
